I have never in my life heard to plant trees in the spring – it’s far too late and they should never go in the ground when they are not dormant. Plant in late fall or early winter, and take advantage of end-of-season sales at nurseries and just leave it in the pot til planting time comes around! Along with that, for fruit trees, you’ll have the advantage of what I refer to as “buying time” – your fruit tree will have been in the nursery all year so is one year closer to fruiting (if it hasn’t already) compared to getting a bare-root and then waiting 5+ years. We scored a combo pear for just $40 at our favorite nursery which was estimated at 3 years old, and are just harvesting pears off it now, which is so great as we’re in our 50s now and are in no mood to wait 🙂

I definitely saw the lack of fruit tree options. I wanted to add another website suggestion: starkbros.com I ordered fruit trees from them this fall. They had a great selection of options, and many were on sale.
